TACOMA - A man who was a witness in the Trang Dai coffe slayings in 1998 was killed early Tuesday by someone shooting through his bedroom window, police said.

The 20-year-old victim was identified as Kay Kosal Sin.

Police said the victim and his brother were sleeping in bunk beds in the bedroom of the house when they were awakened by someone banging on a window.

The victim went khổng lồ the window. Several shots were fired, the fatal shot hitting the man in the chest, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing two Asian men drive off in a small dark car, police spokesman Jim Mattheis said.

Police và the prosecutor"s office said it was not clear whether the shooting was connected to the Trang Dai cafe shootings, in which five people were killed & five others wounded.

"It"s under investigation," said Jerry Costello, administrative deputy in the prosecutor"s office. "We don"t know the answer at this point."

In a recent development in that case, a teen-ager, Marvin Lofi Leo, 18, pleaded guilty in late January khổng lồ five counts of aggravated first-degree murder, choosing khổng lồ spend the rest of his life in prison rather than testify against three others accused in the July 5, 1998, shootings.

Defendants facing the same charges are Jimmee Chea, 20, Sarun Ngeth, 20, and John Phet, 18. A trial date has not been set.

Lea Lofi Tavai Leo said he believed his son pleaded guilty for fear of retaliation.
